For many Nashville neighborhoods, poverty goes unseen but the need is very much there. Now, there's a permanent blessing box in 12South for people who need extra help. The blessing box is located near 12th Avenue South and Sweetbriar Avenue in Nashville. It was installed by the Islamic Center of Nashville as a way to bring the neighborhood together. The idea started online, just a simple Facebook post, and within a few days the post had reached more than a half a million people. Now, donations are pouring in. The idea is give what you can and take what you need.
Dina Sirois, the Operations Director for the Islamic Center of Nashville, said they have a pantry full of supplies donated from neighbors and strangers.
"Right here, we have just an outpouring of donations from people from the Nashville community and actually all over the United States,” she said.
The goal is to make the box a landmark in the 12South neighborhood. Click here to see the center's complete Amazon wish list.
