Thursday, December 8th @ 7pm: Interfaith Climate Change Worship and Candlelight Vigil
The Tennessee Interfaith Power and Light (Nashville Chapter) annual climate worship service and candlelight vigil that will be held Thursday, December 8th at Belmont United Methodist Church (2007 Acklen Ave, Nashville TN 37212).
On the one-year anniversary of the historic Paris Climate Agreement, this service and vigil will provide an opportunity for us to make a strong statement of support for that accord and the importance of the United States staying committed to its implementation.
Persons from Protestant, Catholic, Jewish, Islamic, Buddhist, Hindu, and Native American religions will offer prayers, sacred readings, and songs from their faith traditions calling for faithful care of the earth with a special emphasis on taking action to stop climate change. Though the service will be rooted in these faith expressions, all people of good will who care about the earth are invited.
At the conclusion of the service, participants will be invited to take part in a silent candlelight witness on the sidewalk along 21st Avenue next to the church.
In addition to Tennessee Interfaith Power and Light -- Nashville and the Nashville District Creation Care Ministry, the following groups are co-sponsoring the service and vigil:
Congregation Ohabai Shalom (The Temple)
The Islamic Center of Nashville
United Religions Initiative (URI) -- Nashville Cooperation Circle
Belmont United Methodist Church Outreach Committee
Unity of Nashville
Nashville Friends Meeting (Quakers)
Belle Meade United Methodist Church
Christ United Methodist Church Creation Care Ministry
Hope to see you on the 8th.
